STURGIS - It was a good day for the Niles boys' and girls' track teams at the Exchange Relays on Saturday.
The Vikings finished third in the meet held at Sturgis High School, while the girls' team finished fourth.
St. Joseph won both portion of the meet as its boys' team edged the host Trojans, 90-84. Niles was third with 83 points and Otsego fourth with 78 points. Edwardsburg finished fifth with 43 points. Coldwater and Hartland did not score a point.
The Lady Bears finished with 100 points to easily outdistance runner up Otsego which finished with 87 points. Sturgis was third with 72 points, while Niles was fourth with 61 points and Edwardsburg fifth with 46 points.
Coldwater finished with 24 points and Hartland did not score.
The Vikings took first place in the 3,200-meter relay with a time of 8:27.60 and in the 400-meter relay with a time of 44.8. Niles also won the 800- and 1,600-meter relays with times of 1:32.7 and 3:39.9 respectively.
The Vikings took second in the long jump relay with a distance of 53-6, tied for second in the high jump relay with Edwardsburg with a height of 15-11, was second in the 4-mile relay with a time of 20:45.8 and was second in the distance medley relay with a time of 11:58.3.
Niles was fourth in the discus relay with a distance of 259-5, fourth in the shot put relay with a distance of 104-4.25 and was fifth in the shuttle hurdle relay.
The Lady Vikings took first in the discus and shot put relays with distances of 285-5 and 95-0.5 respectively.
Niles was second in the distance medley relay with a time of 14:54 and third in both the 4-mile relay and the 800-meter relay. The Lady Vikings posted times of 26:16.4 and 1:58.1 in those events.
The Lady Vikings were fourth in the High jump relay with a height of 8-4, were fourth in the pole vault relay with a height of 13-0, were fourth in the 400-meter relay with a time of 57.3 and were fourth in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 4:58.6.
Niles took fifth in the long jump relay with a distance of 35-6.5 and fifth in the shuttle hurdle relay with a time of 1:17.4. Niles was also fifth in the sprint medley relay with a time of 2:18.2.
