Niles track team topples Lakeshore in opener

STEVENSVILLE - The Niles boys' track team defeated host Lakeshore in its season and Big 16 Conference West Division opener.
The Vikings defeated the Lancers, 99-64.
Winning field events for the Vikings were Kurt Poehlman who went 6-0 in the high jump, Otis West who went 19-9.25 in the long jump and Aubrey James Hopkins who won the discus with a toss of 113-5.
In the running events, Niles won the 3,200-meter relay team with a time of 8:59.98. That team consisted of Daniel Geiger, Nicholas Schuck, Andrew Wuthnow and Logan Todd.
Isaiah Glaze captured the 100-meters with a time of 10.87, while the Vikings won the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:34.28.
The relay team consisted of Quinton King, Alex Zanders, West and Glaze.
The Vikings also captured the 400-meter relay with the team of King, West, Glaze and Brandon Spicer. That unit posted a time of 44.96.
CJ Rumpf won the 400-meters with a time of 54.66, while Geiger won the 800-meters with a time of 2:10.99.
West made it three for the meet with a victory in the 200-meters. West was clocked at 22.58.
