Brandywine thinclads split in season opener; girls swept

CASSOPOLIS - The host Lady Rangers swept a Lakeland Conference track meet Wednesday afternoon from visiting Brandywine and Buchanan.
Cassopolis won the girl's portion of the meet against Brandywine 75-32 and against Buchanan 84-27.
The Rangers were swept in the boy's portion of the meet, losing to Brandywine 93-33 and losing to Buchanan 77-43.
Brandywine split with Buchanan, winning the boy's meet 87-41 and losing the girl's meet 52-48.
Brandywine's Lisa Konopinski was a triple winner as she captured the discus (83-0), as a member of the winning 3,200-meter relay team and won th 3,200-meter run (15:44.8).
Joining Konopinski on the relay team, which posted a time of 12:49.06, were Michelle Smith, Caylin Garrard and Erin Sinkoff.
Winning events for Buchanan were Kristel Briney in the long jump (12-10) and the Lady Bucks' 800-meter relay team of Katie Drietzler, Stacy Borr, Briney and Cassandra Lakin which ran a time of 2:13.07.
Winning events for the Brandywine girls against Buchanan were Tyesha Hall in the discus (22-9) and Sinkoff in the 100- and 200-meters (14.35/31.14).
Winning events for Buchanan against Brandywine were Lakin in the high jump (4-2), Briney in the 100- and 300-meter hurdles (20.29/1:01.76) and Borr in the 800-meters (3:00.88).
In the boy's portion of the meet, winning events for Brandywine were Ryan Hartman in the shot put (41-5), Josh James in the discus (94-0), Jeff Van Laere in the long jump (16-3), Kyle Low in the high jump (5-10), Brian Wieger in the 1,600- and 3,200-meters (5:11.33/12:03.7) and Ricky Wood in the 800-meters (2:16.52).
Brandywine also won the 3,200- and 1,600-meter relays with times of 10:01.5 and 3:55.07 respectively. The 3,200-meter relay consisted of Low, Dan Devos, Wood and Weiger. The 1,600-meter team was made up of Justin Price, Lance Taliaferro, Wood and Caleb Frazier.
The 400-meter relay team consisted of Matt Duckett, Adam Prescott, Devos and Eugene Miller. The team ran a time of 48.99.
Winning events for Brandywine against Buchanan in the girl's portion of the meet were Hall (shot put), Konopinski (discus, 1,600- and 3,200-meters) and Sinkhoff (100- and 200-meters).
Brandywine also won the 3,200-meter relay.
Winning events for Buchanan in the girl's portion of the meet were Lakin (high jump), Briney (long jump, 100- and 300-meter hurdles) and Borr (400- and 800-meters). Buchanan also won the 800-meter relay.
Winning events for Brandywine in the boy's portion of the meet against Buchanan were Hartman (shot put), James (discus), Miller (100-meters), Weiger (1,600- and 3,200-meters), Price (400-meters), Wood (800-meters) and Jesse Daniels (200-meters).
Brandywine also won the 3,200-, 400- and 1,600-meter relays.
Buchanan got first place efforts from Gordon Bryant in the high jump (6-2) and long jump (17-6.75), Dan Toth in the 110-meter hurdles (18.48) and David Knisley in the 300-meter hurdles (45.63).
Buchanan also won the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:41.05. That team consisted of Bryant, Hall, Dion Thompson and Aaron Sater.
