Edwardsburg baseball tops Bulldogs

The visiting Edwardsburg varsity baseball team improved to 4-1 on the season with a 12-6 victory over Vicksburg Tuesday afternoon.
The Eddies scorwed two runs in the first, third and seventh innings and three runs in the second and fourth innings to account for their runs.
Vicksburg scored single runs in the first, third and seventh innings and three runs in the sixth.
Jesse Johnson worked five innings and picked up the victory. Johnson allowed four runs on eight hits with three strike outs and four walks. Only one of the runs were earned.
Ben Horton worked two innings to pick up a save.
Zac Rooney led the Eddies with three hits including a home run. Edwardsburg also got three hits from Johnson and two hits from Chuck Berry.
Edwardsburg softball
The Edwardsburg varsity softball team split a non-conference doubleheader with host Vicksburg on Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs won the opening game 4-2, however, Edwardsburg rallied for an 11-10 victory in the nightcap.
Nikki Thompson, Kristen Toney, Sheila Stoops and Michele Hentz all had two hits for the Lady Eddies in the opening game.
Jenna Bowman took the loss despite allowing just three hits.
In the nightcap, Kelli Kretchman banged out four hits including a double, while Toney had two hits, including a triple, and three RBIs.
Thompson finished with three hits.
Bowman (2-1) worked five innings to pick up the victory. She allowed two runs on three hits with three strikeouts and a walk..
Edwardsburg soccer
The Buchanan varsity soccer team blanked host Edwardsburg Tuesday night in its Lakeland Conference opener.
The Lady Bucks, now 2-0 on the year and 1-0 in the LAC, scored a goal in each half and then held on for the victory.
Natalie Barclay scored with just over 20 minutes remaining in the first half to give the Lady Bucks a 1-0 lead.
Danielle Bachleda then sealed the victory with a goal with 28 minutes left in the match.
It was all about defense from that point on as the Lady Bucks were able to hold the Lady Eddies at bay.
Buchanan goalkeeper Robyn Bah faced 8 shots and came up with five saves.
Edwardsburg's Laura Donath faced 12 shots and had seven saves.
The Lady Eddies dipped to 0-2 on the season and are now 0-1 in the Lakeland Conference.
Edwardsburg returns to action today when it travels to Lake Michigan Catholic for a non-conference match beginning at 5 p.m.
