Vikings, Bobcats have successful weekends

SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Niles varsity baseball team was once again able to claim the South Bend Adams Tournament on Saturday. The Vikings took a 5-0 win over Adams in the first round and a 15-2 win over Wheeler in the championship game.
Niles got two runs in the top of the first, two in the top of the third and one in the top of the seventh to five them the 5-0 win.
Steve Clanton went 3-3 with three singles, Lyle Watson went 2-3 with one single and a triple and Adrian Davis went 2-4 with two singles.
Davis was the winning pitcher for Niles and Clanton picked up the save. Losing pitcher for Adams was Eric Hekman.
In the championship game the Vikings got three runs in the top of the first, five in the top of the second and seven in the top of the fifth to give them the 15-2 win.
The game was ended in the fifth due to ten run run.
Josh Henry and Clanton both went 3-4 with three singles, Watson went 2-3 with a single and a double and Rick Storm went 1-3 with a double.
Matt Richardson was the winning pitcher for Niles and Doug Ambush was the losing pitcher for Wheeler.
The Vikings, now 4-0, travel to Battle Creek Central on Thursday. Game time is set to begin at 4 p.m.
Brandywine pick up first win
BRONSON - The Brandywine baseball team picked up its first win Saturday at the Bronson Invitational.
The Bobcats, now 1-5, lost their first game against Bronson 6-2 and won their second game against Buchanan 4-3.
Matt Wieger had two hits for the Bobcats and scored both of Brandywine's runs in the first game. Kory Bridges also had a run scoring single.
In the second game, Josh Atwood had a double and two RBIs. Justin Ely had a complete game win and an RBI double and Bridges knocked in the winning run in the fifth inning.
Brandywine hosts Bridgman tonight at 4 p.m. for its first conference games of the season.
Lady Cats fall short at Penn
SOUTH BEND, Ind. - The Brandywine softball went 2-3 this past weekend at the Penn Tournament.
The Bobcats lost the first game against Penn 5-3 scoring two runs in the first innings and one in the sixth.
Katy Weitberg was the winning pitcher for Penn against Shannon Sharpe.
Kelli Zache was the losing pitcher for the Bobcats against Dee Echevarria.
Top hitters were Echevarria with a double for Brandywine and Shelly Cheblowski with a single, triple and an RBI for Penn.
The Bobcats came out on top of Merriville in the second game 4-1 scoring one run in the first inning, two in the second and one in the fifth.
Amanda Grice was the winning pitcher for the Bobcats against Echevarria. Heather Zurek of Merriville was the losing pitcher.
Top hitters were Zache with two singles for the Bobcats and Jessica Falls of Merriville with two singles and an RBI.
In the final game it was Lafayette Jefferson who took the 9-8 win over Brandywine.
The Bobcats scored two runs in the third and six in the fourth,
Lindsey Stone was the winning pitcher for Lafayette against Camren Wallace.
Amanda Grice was the losing pitcher against Zache.
Top hitters for the Bobcats were Zache with two singles, a triple and an RBI and Echavarria had three singles and an RBI.
Stone had a double and two RBIs for Lafayette and Daise Hakeman had three singles and an RBI.
The Bobcats return to action tonight at home against Bridgman. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
