NILES - The pressure will be rising for some Niles residents.
When driving on U.S.-12 near the Southwestern Michigan College Niles campus, many people may notice a funny looking structure being built in a field.
What's being built is a new water tower.
The project has been ongoing for the last two and a half to three years and is in good shape right now.
Residents in the extreme eastern and western portions of the city have experienced low water pressure.
Water pressure is so bad in these areas that there are times when residents can't get any water if the person before them used too much.
The new water treatment plant being built behind Ring Lardner Middle School is because the city wants to diminish the high iron content in the water.
When finished each of the new water towers will hold 300,000 gallons of water and will be painted blue. The treatment plant will service about 70 percent of the city.
Eull added that there are other projects that need to be done in the city but they choose to do these because they will have the most impact.
