NILES - This Wednesday evening, March 16, the Niles Community Schools will hold the second in a series of three community forums. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m in the high school cafeteria.
Because input from each forum helps determine the options available at the next forum, attendance by community members is extremely important. Therefore anyone that may be affected by these decisions is urged to attend.
At this second meeting, the architectural firm of Tower Pinkster Titus Associates will present seven different options for addressing the facility needs of the district, said Niles Superintendent Doug Law.
These options were developed with the input from the first community forum as well as from meetings with staff and student groups.
The purpose of the second meeting is to reduce the number of choices to two or three options which the community feels are best for the district.
In this personal approach to selecting options for change, each person in attendance will have an opportunity to help influence the final decision.
Those in attendance will be divided into small discussion groups. Each group will choose three options they feel are the best choice. Each group's preferences will then be discussed within the large group and the costs for each option will be explained. The small groups will reconvene to review the information before choosing a final preference.
After the meeting, architects will refine the remaining options and develop different scenarios on how the district can accomplish each option over the next 15 years.
The final community forum will be held on April 20. At that time a final recommendation to the Board of Education will be developed.
