Buchanan’s Wheetley, Carrigan survive consolation first round

AUBURN HILLS - Buchanan's Nick Wheetley and Ryan Carrigan, along with Dowagiac's Kyle Bennett remain alive in the Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 3 Lower Peninsula Wrestling State Finals.
Wheetley, Carrigan and Bennett all won consolation first round matches at The Palace of Auburn Hills this morning.
Buchanan's Todd Taylor and Jim Connors were eliminated from the tournament with a loss.
Wheetley decisioned Dean Amos of Kalkaska, 11-8, while Carrigan pinned James Weaver of Otisville-Lakeville in 2:42.
Bennett pinned Kevin Rowe of Dundee in 4:09.
Taylor lost to Luke Kropetz of Gladwin, 6-3. Connors lost to Nick Williams of Cheboygan, 12-9.
In Division 4, Brandywine's Adam Simon and Cassopolis' Randy Hemminger survived the first round of consolation.
Simons pinned Matt Richardson of Mayville in 1:32.
Hemminger decisioned Jerico Hayward of Marlette, 5-3.
Cassopolis' Zach Deubner lost to Andre Sanson of Brown City, 3-0, while Cassopolis' Kenny Brown lost to Ryan Confer of New Lothrop.
