Cass County's first Asset-Building Celebration at Southwestern Michigan College Tuesday evening started out "highlighting successes some of our families have achieved," said Lloyd Hamilton of Lewis Cass Intermediate School District, who co-hosted the event with Youth Council President Mark Herman.
"We thought it would be fitting to recognize members of our Cass County community family for their efforts in building assets in the lives of others.
LCISD Superintendent John Ostrowski said, "This is our home. Cass County is the place we've chosen to raise our children, to make our livings and to do our business. It's no secret to anyone here that this is not the America any of us were born in. Our children have many, many challenges which we did not have to face. And uncertainties which we have faced and successfully overcome.
Chris Siebenmark, 40, represented state Sen. Ron Jelinek, R-Three Oaks, who was in session in Lansing.
