CASSOPOLIS - The Cassopolis/Vandalia Chamber of Commerce, Southwestern Michigan College, Neighbors and The Trading Post in Edwardsburg will sponsor the third annual Stone Lake Ice Fishing Derby on Saturday, Jan. 22.
The derby will run from 6 a.m. until 3 p.m. The entry fee is $20 and all contestants must register prior to fishing.
Registration will be held at Marcello's Pizzeria, 525 South Broadway, Cassopolis, from Tuesday, Jan. 18 until Saturday, Jan. 22.
First prize in each category will be $600 provided there is a minimum of 150 contestants.
Individual cash prizes will be awarded for longest fish in three categories: bluegill, crappie and perch.
All fish will be measured at Marcellos's Pizzeria and prize distribution will follow measurements.
All fishing must be conducted on Stone Lake and all fish must be submittted live to qualify for prizes.
Plenty of parking is available to Marcello's Pizzeria and free coffee and hot chocolate will be provided to contestants.
The first 150 contestants will also receive a free "Stone Lake Fishing Derby" scarf.
Fishing is contingent on suitable fishing and weather conditions. The alternate derby date is Feb. 5.
