Midway through the third quarter, undefeated Buchanan found itself in its closest contest of the season Tuesday against Lake Michigan Catholic.
But the Bucks rode senior star Tony Robinson's 25-point, 18-rebound performance, not to mention some timely scoring, to a 72-63 victory. With the win, Buchanan remains unbeaten at 6-0.
The Lakers hung with Class C No. 5 Buchanan throughout the game. In the third, the Bucks clung to a 41-36 advantage. But seven straight points from Robinson gave Buchanan a double digit lead at 48-37 with just over a minute remaining in the period.
LMC again closed to within five with 30 seconds remaining, but two free throws from Robinson gave the Bucks a 70-63 lead and put the game away.
Buchanan also got solid scoring efforts from Gordon Bryant (15 points) and Jordan Lee (13).
The Bucks got the victory despite being outrebounded 34-30. Good ball control helped Buchanan, however, as the Bucks turned the ball over only 11 times.
The Lakers had 18 turnovers, 11 of which came in the first half. Zach Brookes led LMC with 23 points.
Buchanan's junior varsity team had a far easier time with the Lakers. The Bucks' JV won 64-37, led by 20 points from Terrill Tucker.
