NILES - Niles High School band members will be selling citrus fruit from Florida, Texas and California as a fundraiser through Thursday, Nov. 18.
It is the band's 43rd annual fruit sale.
Grapefruit, tangelos and both navel and juice oranges will be available by the half case and case, according to Brian and Kendra Carpenter of Niles, sale coordinators for the band's booster organization.
A case of fruit weighs approximately 40 pounds and a half case approximately 20 pounds. Prices for the fruit range from $15.75 for a half case of Florida tangelos to $33.75 for a full case of Texas Rio grapefruit.
Payment will be collected at the time orders are taken. Fruit will be delivered to customers by band members during the week of Dec. 5. Residents who wish to purchase fruit but are not approached by a band member may call the Carpenters to place an order at (269) 684-7718.
A portion of funds raised will be used for the purchase of music and for band instrument and uniform maintenance. A percentage of each student's sales will also be deposited in his/her band account for trip and other expenses.
The band is planning a trip to Orlando, Fla., to the Disney themed parks in the spring of 2006 that will include parade marching and performance workshops.
