CASSOPOLIS - On hand Oct. 14 at the monthly meeting of the Cass County Historical Commission for the unveiling of the historical county map was its creator, painter Margaret Hunter of Dowagiac.
Her colorful acrylic figures dot the family county landscape of roads, rivers, lakes and hills. The legend of the map appears in her fine printing on the right of the painting.
Miss Hunter undertook this project at the request of the commission.
Members selected the specific sites and activities they wanted her to represent.
She plans on sending a copy of the map to the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution as her annual submission to the Arts Division of its American heritage contest.
On the reverse side of the map is the history of Cass County, with text and photographs by Grafton and Barbara Cook.
According to Map Chairman Barbara Cook, "A laminated copy of the map will be given to the courthouses, municipalities and area elementary schools and libraries."
The 24-inch by 36-inch print copies will be for sale at the SMC museum and the Marcellus News office. Other outlets will be announced later.
