Eddies sweep ‘Cats, Mustangs

Brandywine's boys beat River Valley in cross country on Monday, but lost to host Edwardsburg in a double-dual meet. The Bobcat girls lost to both Edwardsburg and River Valley in a meet that the Eddies dominated.
Brandywine's Brian Wieger and Dan Devos finished third and fourth in the boys' race, but almost two minutes separated the runners. Wieger finished in 19:07, while Devos came in at 21:05.
James Greenfield of Edwardsburg won the race by a wide margin, almost a minute ahead of second-place Michael Penninger, also of Edwardsburg.
The Bobcats lost 23-32 to the Eddies, but prevailed 26-29 over River Valley. Edwardsburg won both its meets, beating the Mustangs 21-34.
In the girls' race, Caylan Garrard was Brandywine's top runner, taking sixth place in a time of 26:54. Edwardsburg runners finished in the first five spots, guiding the Eddies to easy victories over both opponents.
The Bobcats lost 15-48 to Edwardsburg and 20-39 to River Valley in the girls' race.
There was a bit of controversy in the race, as a few of the runners in both races got lost on the trails at Southwestern Michigan College.
Brandywine head coach Jim Murray said a cone was placed on the trail before the start of the race. Some runners thought the cone was blocking the course and turned the wrong way.
On Monday, Cassopolis was defeated by Coloma and Decatur in a meet held in Coloma.
Cal Pompey was the top Ranger finisher as he placed third overall with a time of 20:26.
John Young finished sixth with a time of 21:24.
Sarah McIntyre was the lone Lady Ranger to finish in the Top 10.
McIntyre was seventh overall with a time of 28:22.
