Buchanan grabbed an early lead Monday, and Brandywine's comeback fell short in the Bucks' varsity soccer team's 3-1 win at Brandywine.
Buchanan got out to a 2-0 lead in the first half thanks to goals by Doug Summers and Ryan Compeau. Coming out in the second half, Brandywine head coach Jim McNamara said his team didn't give up, despite being in a hole.
The fight showed, as the Bobcats' Matt Beaver scored a goal midway through the second half, closing Buchanan's lead to one goal.
Brandywine was unable to capitalize on some scoring chances, including a penalty kick and a shot that bounced off the cross bar. Buchanan added a goal with about a minute left to seal the victory.
McNamara said the match was closer than the 3-1 score indicated. The Bucks' goal in the final minute made the margin of defeat seem greater, but the teams played a close match, he said.
