CASSOPOLIS - A crash Sunday night at 10:51 on Middle Crossing Road near California Road in Silver Creek Township injured James Gibson, 22, of Dowagiac.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reported Gibson was traveling west on Middle Crossing when he attempted to avoid an animal during dark and foggy conditions.
Gibson lost control of his vehicle, which touched the shoulder of the road and caused it to turn sideways, then overturn.
The driver was alone in the vehicle.
Gibson was transported to Lakeland Hospital in Niles by Sister Lakes ambulance, treated for minor injuries and released.
Initial investigation and witnesses believe the accident was caused due to unlighted foggy conditions which made it difficult to see and the attempt to avoid the animal in the roadway.
Indian Lake and Sister Lakes fire personnel and Sister Lakes ambulance assisted deputies with the accident.
Gibson was wearing his seatbelt. Both air bags deployed.
Weather and road conditions at the time of the accident were foggy and dark. The roadway was dry.
Alcohol was not a factor.
