Cassopolis woman, 18, strikes tree with car

CASSOPOLIS - A young Cassopolis woman lost control of her vehicle in Calvin Township Friday evening and struck a tree.
Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his deputies handled the single-car, personal-injury accident on Crooked Creek Road near Northrop Street at 6:20 p.m. Aug. 27.
According to the driver, Magnolia Pratt, 18, of Cassopolis, she was rounding the corner where Crooked Creek meets Northrop.
When her car reached the dirt portion of the road she lost control, went off the roadway and struck a tree.
Also in the car was Darnell Glover, 20, of Cassopolis. He was treated at the scene and released. Magnolia was taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac for treatment of her injuries.
Seatbelts were worn at the time of the crash. The sheriff said alcohol was not a factor. The accident remains under investigation.
Penn Township Fire, Cassopolis Fire and Ambulance and Dowagiac Ambulance assisted deputies at the scene.
