Air Care takes 2 crash victims to hospital

CASSOPOLIS - Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office investigated a personal-injury accident at 10:40 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 29, on Indian Lake Road, near Peavine Street, in Pokagon Township.
A vehicle driven by Willis Rogers, 45, of Dowagiac, was northbound on Indian Lake Road when it was unable to negotiate the curve and left the roadway, hitting a tree.
Rogers was injured in the accident and taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac.
Also injured in the accident was passenger Paula Smith, 46, of Dowagiac.
She, too, was taken to Borgess-Lee.
Both subjects were transferred by Air Care to Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Seatbelt use and alcohol appear to be factors in the accident, the sheriff reported.
The Sheriff's Office was assisted with the accident by the Michigan State Police Niles post, Dowagiac Ambulance Service, Pokagon Fire Department and Dowagiac Fire Department.
