Buchanan's Jeff Smoke advanced to the semifinals of the Olympic men's flatwater K-2 (doubles kayaking) Monday morning.
Smoke and partner Andrew Bussey finished seventh in their heat of the 1000-meter race with a time of 3:17.268, good enough to move into the next round.
The top three teams from Wednesday's semifinals advance to Friday's finals and get a shot at winning the gold medal.
