City Council meets tonight

NILES - The Niles City Council meets tonight at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers in the Niles Fire Department, East Main Street.
The meeting will begin with a series of four public hearings, beginning at 7:10 p.m. The first is to gather input on use of a Community Development Block Grant Revolving Loan Fund for the Front Street Project; the next is on the same use of same funds for the Downtown Project; the third is to gather input on issuing a liquor license for sale of liquor outdoor on the golf course at Signal Point Club; the last is to gather input on the city's 2005 fiscal year budget.
In other business, the council is expected to consider:
approving a request from the Fort St. Joseph Museum to hold "The British Are Coming" event on the vacant city lots on East Main Street between Fourth and Fifth from Oct. 2 through Oct. 3 and consideration of allowing camp fires and prohibiting parking on the west end of the property.
approving the purchase of a used 2004 Ford Taurus for the Department of Public Works from Tyler Automotive at a cost of $9,800, with trade-in.
adopting a resolution to approve a request from Signal Point Club, Inc. for authorization to allow the sale and consumption of alcoholic beverages out-of-doors on the golf course portion of their establishment, which is located within city limits.
adopting a resolution to approve the proposed Fiscal Year 2005 budget.
approving the use of the Community Development Block Grant Revolving Loan Fund to pay for the reconstruction of Sycamore Street and engineering fees related to the Front Street Revitalization project at a cost of $80,000.
approving the use of the Community Development Block Grant Revolving Loan Fund to pay for the reconstruction of sidewalks and curbs along Second Street in support of the Downtown Revitalization project at an estimated cost of $50,000.
authorizing the mayor to sign an agreement with Wightman and Associates of Benton Harbor to provide engineering services for a federally funded street safety project estimated to cost $82,000 and consideration of approving the city's share of the cost which is $16,400.
