Three Brandywine softball players played in an All-State tournament Saturday at Michigan State. But the games weren't about winning. They were about having fun.
The tournament was actually four games pitting teams comprised of the All-State selections from Michigan's four softball divisions against each other.
Asmus and her Bobcat teammates, pitcher Nicki McGown and first baseman Michelle Shoemaker, played in the Divison 3 game. Their team won 5-1.
The girls arrived at Michigan State Friday afternoon. They ate and stayed in university dorms.
Asmus said meeting and interacting with players from around the state was just as enjoyable as playing in the game.
McGowen and Shoemaker were First Team All-State selections, while Asmus was Honorable Mention for the 2004 season. All three graduated and will go to college in the fall.
McGowen originally wasn't going to play because the traveling team she's on was away the day of the game.
She was able to make it and play in the All-State game when one of the shortstops on the Divison 3 team broke her wrist a few days before the match.
