Niles wins in Majors tourney

Niles won its opening game of the Major Baseball state tournament Friday, beating West Portage 4-2 after their opponent tried to rally late in the game.
West Portage loaded the bases with one out in the seventh inning, but couldn't catch Niles, as relief pitcher Cameron Sly got the team out of the jam.
Dashawn Curtis pitched five shutout innings for Niles. Curtis also got the scoring going early for Niles with a first-inning home run.
Aaron Davis doubled for Niles and Kyle Ballge had a single.
