8-year-olds win in Hartford

The Howard Township 8-year-old All-Stars recently won the Peanut B division Hartford Tournament.
After a 12-11 loss in the first game of the tournament, Howard Township roared back to win six straight games and take the championship.
The team not only won, but won big. After the initial loss, Howard Township beat Cassopolis 20-0, Watervliet 19-0, Decatur 18-4 and Hartford 18-2 to move into the championship round.
Howard Township faced Berrien Springs, who was undefeated in the tournament. Howard won a close one 16-14 to force a second game.
In the final game, the score was close until Howard Township used an 8-run fifth inning to seal an 11-7 victory.
The team also received the tournament's Sportsmanship Award. This award is voted on by the umpires and tournament officials and is based on overall player, coach and crowd sportsmanship.
Each team member received a medallion for this honor in addition to a championship trophy.
