Hoop, soccer teams defeated

MISHAWAKA, Ind. -- Only two teams from Michigan took part in the championship round of Sports Fest 2004.
After the Michigan All-Star teams in boys' basketball and boys' soccer dropped semifinal games to the Indiana Metro teams Wednesday night, only the Michigan girls' basketball and Michigan baseball teams remained in contention for championships.
The Michigan boys' basketball team led early, but eventually fell behind and dropped a 115-97 decision to Metro.
The Michigan boys' soccer team took an early 1-0 lead, only to have Metro gain a 3-1 advantage by halftime. Michigan scored another goal, but could not manage to tie the game or take the lead and lost, 3-2.
Alan Robinson of St. Joseph led the Michigan basketball team, and all scorers in the game, with 26 points. Dowagiac's Jeff Cooper added 15 and Eric Brown of Cassopolis scored 14. Kyle Etter of St. Joseph and Farrid Coleman of Coloma each scored 10.
Chris Henderson of South Bend Washington led the Metro team with 23 points.
Metro will face Indiana East in the championship game Friday at 9 p.m. following the girls' championship game between Michigan and Indiana West, which tips off at 7 p.m.
Jason Girvan of St. Joseph scored the first goal of Wednesday's soccer match, thanks to an assist from St. Joseph teammate Nick Sherrill.
Following the Metro's barrage of goals, Nick Kincaid of St. Joseph took an assist from Edwardsburg's Ryan Warner for the final score of the match.
Metro outshot Michigan 9-8 and Michigan goalkeeper Davey Moran of Dowagiac came up with six saves.
