For the sixth straight season, the Buchanan varsity tennis team finished in the Top 4 at the Division 4 State Finals on Saturday in Holland.
The Bucks finished with 15 points as a team. Ann Arbor Greenhills won the title with 28 points. Buchanan and Greenhills shared the title in 2003.
Jackson Lumen Christi finished third with 27 points and Grosse Ile took third with 16 points. The Bucks scored 16 points, but had one point deducted because of an unsportsmanlike conduct violation.
No. 1 singles player Jose Gonzalez was the highest individual finisher for the Bucks, losing 6-3, 6-2 to David Seyfreth of Greenhills in the championship match.
Gonzalez, as well as the No. 1 doubles team of Chad Van Lue and Doug Summers, earned First Team All-State honors.
Van Lue and Summers reached the tournament semifinals, as did Jeff Eifler at No. 2 singles and Mike Otwell and Korey Camp at No. 3 doubles.
At No. 3 singles, Buchanan's True Sulier lost in the second round. Ryan Skene also lost in the second round.
The No. 2 doubles team of Alex Gordon and Alex Flood reached the quarterfinals and the No. 4 doubles team of Dustin Sieff and Andrew Gordon lost in the second round.
