Brandywine sweeps Division 3 District Tournaments

During the regular season the Brandywine varsity baseball team lost a pair of one-run decisions to No. 2-ranked River Valley.
The Bobcats more than made up for those two runs with an 11-1 victory over the Mustangs in Saturday's Division 3 District Championship game at Buchanan High School.
The Brandywine varsity softball team also beat River Valley, 12-0, to extend its streak of district titles to six in a row.
Both teams also beat Buchanan by 10 runs in the semifinal round.
The Brandywine squads will compete in the Division 3 Regional Tournament Saturday at Hartford.
In baseball, the Bobcats will face Gobles in one semifinal while Edwardsburg will take on Kalamazoo Christian in the other semifinal.
In softball, Brandywine faces Hartford in one semifinal while Kalamazoo Christian and Constantine will square off in the other.
Kory Bridges improved to 10-7 on the year as he gave up just three hits against River Valley on Saturday. On offense, Brandywine peppered the Mustangs with 15 hits, including doubles by Billy Syrette and Josh Atwood.
In a 16-6 win over Buchanan, Atwood hit a home run while Syrette, Casey Udell and Josh Dickeson each doubled.
Zach Bennett earned the pitching victory in the semifinal game, giving up seven hits.
Kyle Tracy took the loss for Buchanan.
Nicki McGowen struck out 21 batters and allowed just two hits on the day as she improved to 34-5 on the year with both decisions Saturday.
In the title game, Brandywine managed 12 hits, including doubles by McGowen and Kayla Asmus.
Against Buchanan, Brandywine had 11 hits, led by a triple from McGowen and a double by Michelle Shoemaker.
Ashley Pointer suffered the loss for Buchanan.
