West leads eight Niles boys to qualify for Division 2 Track and Field Finals

The Niles High School track and field teams kept a successful season going with strong performances Friday afternoon and evening at the Division 2 Regional Meet at Allegan High School.
The Niles boys finished fourth overall with 46 points. Vicksburg won the meet with 91 points, followed by Lakeshore with 80 and Three Rivers with 59. Dowagiac took fifth with 38 points.
The Niles girls came in 13th overall with 20 points. St. Joseph won the regional title with 82 points.
In all, Niles will be sending 10 athletes to the Division 2 State Track and Field Finals at Caledonia High School on Saturday, June 5.
Junior Otis West led the group of eight Niles boys to qualify for the finals in five events. West finished third in the long jump with a leap of 20-4.75 and fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.13. He will also be accompanying Isaiah Glaze, Robert Cinninger and Quinton King as a member of the 400-meter relay team which finished second with a time of 44.2 and the 800-meter relay team which took fourth place with a time of 1:32.2.
Glaze, a freshman, also qualified in the 100-meter dash with a second-place finish in a time of 11.10. Dowagiac's Devon Jackson won the event with a time of 11.0.
Niles had three runners in the finals of the 100-meter dash. King joined Glaze and West in the final heat.
Also qualifying for the Vikings was the 3,200-meter relay team of Josh Mann, Austin Neilson, Dan Geiger and Logan Todd. They took third place with a time of 8:14.5.
The Niles girls will be sending two athletes to the State Finals. Sophomores Tasha Webster and Ashley Austin qualified in individual events. Webster took third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 13.2. Austin finished third in the shot put with a toss of 33-11.
