Three was the magic number for Niles baseball player Cory Coquillard Tuesday afternoon.
The junior catcher hit a pair of three-run home runs to help the Vikings to a 13-3 win over Big 16 Conference foe Battle Creek Central at Thomas Memorial Stadium. The win lifted Niles' record to 9-4 overall.
Coquillard hit the two long balls in his first two at-bats. Matt Richardson, Steve Clanton and Lyle Watson added doubles for the Vikings while Jesse Sallak, Kyle Kidwell and Kyle Isabel each hit a pair of single. Watson also hit a single.
Richardson, Sallak and Clanton each drove in two runs while Kidwell picked up one RBI and Coquillard brought in the other six.
Sallak also picked up the pitching victory for Niles, his first of the season. Evan McCoy took the loss for the Bearcats.
Niles hosts Battle Creek Lakeview Thursday afternoon for a Big 16 Conference doubleheader.
