Niles senior pitcher Kyle Kidwell knows how to get the most out of his innings.
The righthander pitched a total of two innings Monday evening and earned a pair of victories as the Niles varsity baseball team swept a Big 16 Conference West Division doubleheader from Lakeshore.
Kidwell played the role of closer for ace John Kessick in the first game as Niles beat the Lancers 2-1 in nine innings.
Kidwell then backed up starter Matt Richardson in the Vikings' eight-inning, 4-3 win in the second game.
Richardson's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the ninth inning of the first game allowed Adrian Davis to come home for the winning run. Cory Coquillard scored the winning run in the second game.
The Vikings, now 8-4 on the year and 3-1 in the West Division, host Battle Creek Central today for a doubleheader at 4 p.m.
Niles managed eight hits in the first game, including doubles from Lyle Watson and Kidwell.
Coquillard and Josh Henry each hit two singles while Davis and Kidwell also had singles.
The Vikings had seven hits in the second game, led by Coquillard's double and single.
Davis added a pair of singles while Henry, Watson and Kyle Isabel each singled once.
