Niles junior varsity outlasts Three Rivers

The Niles junior varsity tennis team hosted Three Rivers Thursday afternoon in non-conference action. The visiting Wildcats beat Niles 5-3 as the two squads held a full eight matches using eight-game pro sets.
At No. 1 singles, Niles' Blake Borzsei beat Dan Booko 8-5. At No. 2 singles, Three Rivers' Jordan Booko beat Dan Ott 8-2. Leon Cowan of Three Rivers then beat Mark Neeser 8-2 at No. 3 singles. At No. 4 singles, Cowan beat Mike Anglin 8-0.
The Vikings fared much better in doubles play despite a loss at No. 1 doubles where Dennis Ball and Jordan Studebaker of Three Rivers beat Taylor Clark and Levi Grooms 8-6.
At No. 2 doubles the Niles team of Tyler Payne and Jeff Pugh beat Brandon Stensland and Zack Wise 8-5. Chris Haas and Nick Fortuna of Niles then beat Brandon Heart and Joe Outman 8-6 at No. 3 doubles.
The Niles No. 4 doubles team of Brandon Mellott and Phil Bossler then picked up a 9-7 victory to end the competition.
