NILES -- The Southwestern Michigan Economic Growth Alliance recognized some of our area's outstanding business leaders at its annual board meeting on Wednesday morning.
After breakfast, Southwestern Michigan Economic Growth Alliance president Jerry French gave a presentation highlighting the year of business growth in the Niles-Buchanan area.
The entire presentation centered on Elvis Presley and the awards were named after some of the performer's most famous tunes.
In May 2003, Bertrand Township was awarded a Community Development Block Grant for $785,880 to improve its water system by adding a new water tower. The City of Niles is participating with the local match.
The project also needed private investment and job creation support from local businesses and the "All Shook Up" award went to those businesses: AACOA Extrusions, Inc. and Pilkington North America.
