SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The Brandywine varsity softball team defeated South Bend Adams, 4-0, to capture the Adams Invitational on Saturday.
Brandywine (8-2) reached the championship game with a 7-0 victory over Boone Grove, Ind. and a 13-1 win over Michigan City, Ind.
Nicki McGowen allowed one hit with 11 strikeouts and no walks in the championship game as she improved to 8-2 on the season.
Dee Echevarria had two singles, a triple and three RBIs to pace the Lady Bobcats, who also got a double from Kayla Asmus.
Against Boone Grove, McGowen tossed a perfect game with five strikeouts and no walks.
McGowen had a home run and four RBIs, while Amanda Grice had two hits. Brandywine also got doubles from Michelle Shoemaker and Asmus.
In the Michigan City contest, McGowen tossed a one-hitter with seven strikeouts and no walks.
Shoemaker singled, doubled and drove in three runs. Ashley Antus and Echevarria each had two hits. Echevarria also drove in two runs.
On Friday afternoon the Lady Bobcats swept Bridgman, 7-1 and 3-1.
McGowen had a two-hitter with a career-high 17 srikeouts in the first game, while in the nightcap she tossed a two-hitter with 11 strikeouts.
McGowen singled and tripled in the opening game, while Grice singled and doubled to drive in three Runs.
In the nightcap, Missy Low had two hits and an RBI for Brandywine.
Brandywine hosts Cassopolis today at 4 p.m.
