On lookout for new Miss Cass

CASSOPOLIS -- There will be an orientation meeting Saturday, April 17, at 10 a.m. at Cass District Library, M-62 North for any contestants interested in participating in the 2005 Miss Cass/St. Joseph County Scholarship Pageant.
The pageant is open to all young women living, working full-time or attending school in Cass or St. Joseph counties.
She must be between the ages of 17 and 24 and never been married.
Unlike many other pageants, contestants are not charged an entry fee or required to obtain sponsors to participate in the Miss Cass/St. Joseph Scholarship Pageant.
This year's pageant will take place Saturday, Aug. 14, 2004.
The winner and runners-up will be awarded $2,000 in scholarships and other gifts. She will represent Cass and St. Joe counties in the 2005 Miss Michigan Pageant.
This year a Miss Teen Cass/St. Joseph County will also be crowned.
Young women ages 14 to 17 are eligible to compete and are also invited to attend this orientation meeting.
Contestants are judged on talent (two minutes), which counts as 30 percent of her total score; personal interview, 40 percent; and evening gown, swimsuit (casual wear for teen) and overall composite, 10 percent each.
Besides singing, dancing or playing an instrument, talent may consist of a dramatic reading, comedy dialogue, baton twirling, mime, magic, ventriloquism or a combination of talents.
