Niles grads help KVCC reach national tourney

Two graduates of Niles High School helped the Kalamazoo Valley Community College women's basketball team qualify for the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II National Tournament.
Jami Grannell and Mary Small, both 2001 graduates of Niles, are now members of the KVCC team which beat Edison Community College 69-54 to win the Region 12 West title and advance to the National Tournament in Overland Park, Kan., this week.
Grannell scored 10 points in the Regional championship game.
The Cougars, which are 31-1 on the season, earned the No. 4 seed in the National Tournament, which starts Wednesday.
KVCC will await the winner of Wednesday's game between Owens (Ohio) Community College and Johnson (Kan.) Community College. The Cougars play Thursday at 4 p.m.
