Wintry blast keeps Cass officials busy

CASSOPOLIS -- Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports his office is investigating an injury accident that occurred on M-40, north of Mann Street, in Newberg Township at 4:53 p.m. Sunday, March 7.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene after a single vehicle traveling north on M-40 left the roadway and struck an electric pole on the east side of the road.
The vehicle impacted the pole on the passenger side of the vehicle.
The driver was Carla C. Spicer, 29, of Elkhart, Ind.
With Spicer at the time of the accident were her step-daughter, Samantha Spicer, 9, of Kalamazoo, and her two children, Layda Spicer, 9 months old, and Matthew Spicer, 9 months old.
All four subjects were transported to Three Rivers Area Hospital for treatment. Samantha Spicer was transferred to Bronson Methodist Hospital, Kalamazoo, by Bronson's critical care ambulance for further treatment. She was listed in critical condition.
Initial investigation indicates weather was a factor in the crash.
Carla Spicer and Samantha Spicer were both wearing seatbelts.
The two small infants were in appropriate car seats.
Newberg Fire and Ambulance, Marcellus Ambulance and Three Rivers Ambulance assisted at the accident scene.
The crash remains under investigation.
Marcellus man injured
CASSOPOLIS -- Sheriff's deputies investigated a personal-injury accident at 6:56 p.m. Sunday on Marcellus Highway, near Decatur Road in Volinia Township.
Deputies were called to an injury accident on Marcellus Highway when a vehicle driven by Michael Ludlow, 51, of Marcellus, lost control traveling eastbound, veered off the road and struck a tree.
Ludlow was taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac by Marcellus ambulance.
Assisting deputies on the scene was the Wayne Township Fire Department.
Deputies reported weather conditions appear to be a factor in the accident.
Marcellus woman injured
CASSOPOLIS -- A crash at 8:22 p.m. Sunday on Marcellus Highway, near Gards Prairie Road in Volinia Township, injured a Marcellus woman.
A vehicle driven by Sebrina Sibley, 23, of Marcellus, was the only vehicle involved.
Sibley was eastbound on Marcellus Highway when she lost control of her vehicle, went off the road and hit a tree.
Sibley was taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital in Dowagiac by Marcellus ambulance.
Assisting deputies on the scene was the Wayne Township Fire Department.
Deputies reported weather conditions appear to be a factor in the accident.
Cassopolis woman hurt
CASSOPOLIS -- Deputies reported another one-vehicle mishap at 6:12 p.m. Sunday on Dutch Settlement Street, near Decatur Road in Volinia Township.
Deputies were called to a crash involving a vehicle driven by Amberly Thompson, 19, of Cassopolis.
Thompson was westbound on Dutch Settlement when she lost control of her vehicle, which went off the road and rolled over.
She and her passenger, Brandi Wetzel, 17, of Marcellus, were both taken to Borgess-Lee Memorial Hospital by Marcellus ambulance.
Assisting deputies on the scene was the Wayne Township Fire Department.
