LMC wins first game of regional tourney

The Lake Michigan College men's basketball team won its first game in the Region 12 National Junior College Athletic Association Tournament Wednesday night at Kalamazoo Valley Community College.
The Indians beat Oakland Community College 71-68 to improve to 12-16 on the year and advance to quarterfinal play Today against No. 1 seed Grand Rapids Community College. Grand Rapids is also ranked No. 11 in the country.
LMC and Grand Rapids split their two regular-season meetings.
The Indians trailed 37-34 at halftime and outscored Oakland 37-31 in the second half.
Niles High School graduates Adam Shepherdson and Desmond Favors led the Indians with 17 and 14 points, respectively. Favors made four 3-pointers and Shepherdson connected on two 3-pointers.
Niles' Corey Thacker pulled down five rebounds to go along with six points.
