Ferris secures second place

The Ferris State University women's basketball team secured at least a second-place finish in the North Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference with an 85-78 win over Northern Michigan Thursday night.
Niles High School graduate Erin Miller scored 25 points for the Bulldogs and also grabbed a team-high seven rebounds to go along with six assists and one steal.
Lucy DeMartin led Ferris State with 29 points, including four 3-pointers, as well as six assists.
Northern Michigan's Tiffany Grubaugh led all scorers with 35 points, including six 3-pointers.
Northern Michigan beat Ferris 78-71 in this season's previous meeting.
The Bulldogs are now 19-7 on the year and 14-3 in GLIAC play. Lake Superior State leads the North Division with an overall record of 22-3 and a league mark of 15-2.
The loss dropped Northern Michigan into a tie for third place with Michigan Tech. Both teams are 10-7 in the league. Northern Michigan is 18-7 overall.
Ferris hosts Michigan Tech Saturday in the final game of the regular season. The GLIAC Tournament begins with quarterfinal play Tuesday.
