NILES -- Officials of Semco Gas and Energy Co. said Wednesday's gas leak may have been a false alarm, as they were unable to locate any source for the suspected leak on Niles-Buchanan Road.
Doug Arny, of the Semco regional operations office in Niles, said "we looked and could not find anything."
He said the odors could have been caused by anything from sewer gas to fertilizers.
Arny also pointed out the Niles public safety officials were of great assistance in helping them to ensure the public's safety.
Niles City Fire Chief Larry Lamb was also unsure of the cause, saying it may have been some type of problem that just took care of itself.
Lamb was happy with the collaborative effort put forth from the various public safety departments in Niles.
