NILES -- Brandywine High School junior Emily Whitney and Niles High School senior Brian Ketchum are the Niles Daily Star Athletes of the Week for Jan. 26-31.
Whitney is a member of the Brandywine varsity volleyball team which earned a runner-up finish at the Buck Classic on Saturday. In that tournament, Whitney led the team in kills with 33, digs with 25 and aces with 11. She also had 20 assists and eight blocks. Brandywine's next action is Wednesday night at Berrien Springs.
Ketchum is a member of the Niles varsity basketball team which ended its eight-game losing streak last week. In a 64-61 win over Kalamazoo Central on Friday night, Ketchum led the Vikings with 16 points and eight rebounds. Niles travels to Sturgis Friday night.
