CASSOPOLIS -- A two-car accident with injuries occurred at 1:29 a.m. today, Jan. 30, on Lakeshore Drive near Barron Lake Road in Howard Township, Cass County Sheriff Joseph M. Underwood Jr. reports.
Emergency personnel were called to the scene after a vehicle driven by Eugene Martin Howard, 29, of Cassopolis, was involved in a crash with a second vehicle driven by James Lee Krueger, 33, of Niles.
Initial investigation shows that Howard was eastbound on Lakeshore Drive and Krueger was westbound when they collided.
The accident occurred as the Krueger vehicle came through a curve as the Howard vehicle approached.
Both parties were injured in the accident. Howard was transported to Lakeland Hospital, Niles, for treatment.
Alcohol was a factor in the crash. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
Deputies were assisted by Howard Township fire personnel and Southwestern Michigan Community Ambulance Services (SMCAS).
The accident remains under investigation at this time.
