Brigitha’s hot streak continues; CMU still losing

The Bowling Green State University Falcons shot a scorching 64 percent from the floor and 62 percent from 3-point range in an 86-61 Mid-American Conference victory in Anderson Arena on Sunday afternoon.
The Falcons have now won five of their last six to improve to 8-8 overall, 4-2 in MAC play, while the Chippewas fall to 3-12, 0-5 in the MAC.
BGSU turned the ball over just three times in the first half and then shot 72 percent (18-for-25) in the second while controlling the entire game.
Niles High School graduate Gerrit Brigitha and Brandon Voorhees led the Chippewas on the offensive end. Brigitha scored 21 points and grabbed six rebounds while shooting 9-for-11 from the floor. He has now scored 20 or more points in six straight games.
Voorhess came off the bench to post 16 points and grab eight rebounds.
Bowling Green hit its first five shots to race out to a 12-6 lead. Kevin Nelson and the Chippewas cut it to two on a three-pointer, 17-15 with 12:35 left, but the Falcons went on a 19-6 run after that to stretch it to a 15-point lead with just over seven minutes left in the half. BGSU held a double-digit lead the entire second half and led by as many as 28.
The Falcons used a balanced scoring attack with John Reimold and Kevin Netter each pouring in 20 points. Josh Almanson added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds and Ron Lewis tallied 15 points.
Bowling Green was 35-for-55 from the floor (.636) and 8-for-13 (.615) from three-point range. CMU was 24-for-55 (.436) from the floor and 6-for-17 (.353) from three-point range. The Chippewas shot a woeful season low of 39 percent from the foul line (7-for-18).
CMU outrebounded its opponent for just the second time this season, holding a 33-30 edge on the glass.
