SOUTH BEND, Ind. -- The first half started quickly for South Bend Washington as Bryan Davis scored 11 of his game-high 27 points in leading the Panthers to an 86-53 victory over visiting Niles.
It seemed that no matter how hard Niles tried, Washington had an answer for the struggling Vikings. The Panthers jumped ahead early and did not stop as they cruised to a 24-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Niles did bounce back in the second quarter keeping the lead to 13.
The second half brought much offense from Washington and Niles did little to contain the high octane-scoring of Davis, Chris Henderson, and Jonathan Jamerson. Jamerson scored 16 and Henderson added 10 as did Brandon Johnson.
The bright spot for Niles was the play of sophomore guard Nate Parks as he had 12 points and three steals. John Kessick also scored 11 for the Vikings.
The Vikings have lost five in a row and slipped to 1-6 on the season Tuesday night. Niles hosts Penn (Ind.) tonight.
Washington (8-3) outrebounded Niles 35-29 and Niles committed 26 turnovers compared to 17 turnovers by the Panthers.
Former Buchanan High School standout D'Vaughn Frazier is now a backup junior guard on the Washington squad. He scored six points on a pair of 3-pointers.
The Washington junior varsity team beat Niles 65-54. Tom Robson led the young Vikings with 17 points.
