Youths sentenced for vehicle vandalism

CASSOPOLIS -- Four 19 and 20 year olds were sentenced for three counts Friday in Cass County Circuit Court for their part in breaking and entering of vehicles in Love Estates, Silvercreek Township on Oct. 9, 2003.
Casey Lee Pasley, 19, 29850 50th St., Bangor received a sentence from Judge Michael E. Dodge similar to the one his twin brother Tracy Pasley received on Dec. 19.
He was put on probation for two years and sentenced to the Cass County Jail for 71 days, with credit for 71 days. He is to pay $600 probation fees, $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment, plus two $40 assessments, $450 court costs, $350 attorney fee, and shares the responsibility with the other defendants the $1,230 in restitution.
A total of seven vehicles were broken into or attempted to be entered, said Cass County Prosecutor Victor Fitz.
Brandon Charles Murphy, 19, 15157 52 and a half St., Grand Junction had a prior record and still owes $1,000 in restitution in a similar conviction, Dodge said.
Murphy was sentenced to two years probation with 92 days in jail, with credit for 92. He is to pay $900 probation fees, $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment, $450 court costs, and $350 attorney fee.
The last participant to the vandalism was James Anthony McDonald, who was the driver, said Dodge, or "wheel man." He still has charges pending in Van Buren County, Dodge added.
McDonald used his 91 days in the Cass County Jail to attain with diploma from the Cassopolis Adult Education program. His teacher, Helena Hoover recommended he work toward attaining a college scholarship, because of his good work, especially in science.
He was sentenced to time served and is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment, plus two other $40 assessments, $350 attorney fee, and shares the responsibility of restitution.
In other sentencings:
Fitz quoted the drug team as saying Knight was the dealer of the largest quantity of the drug in the Marcellus area at the time of his arrest. The May delivery was for one ounce for $1,200 said Dodge.
Knight told Doge of his attempt to stabilize his life in order by finding employment and marrying the mother of his newborn son.
In a tearful goodbye he kissed his son and wife as he was sent to the Michigan Department of Corrections for three and a half to 20 years, with credit for 23 days.
He is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, and two $60 court assessments.
He was sentenced to two years to five years in the Michigan Department of Corrections, with credit for 132 days. He is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment and $331 restitution.
Speeds of over 90 miles an hour were reached before he was stopped by Cass County Sheriff's Deputies, who had tried to stop him for a minor traffic violation.
He was sentenced to 150 days in the Cass County Jail, with credit for 92 days. He is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment, $350 attorney fee and $83 restitution for a forensic exam.
Shepard was found also to be driving on a suspended license and was sentenced to times served and a $40 court assessment.
He was sentenced to 300 days in the Cass County Jail with credit for 17 days, for intent to deliver. His license was suspended for 365 days and he is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment and $350 attorney fee.
He will be sentenced on another charge from Oct. 24, 2003 on Jan. 30 and a bench warrant from Elkhart County is also waiting for him, Dodge said.
He was sentenced to the Michigan Department of Corrections for 30 months to eight years.
He is to pay $60 to the Crime Victims Fund, $60 court assessment and $350 attorney fee.
