Suspect’s attempt to flee by jumping out window fails

BENTON HARBOR -- At 8:30 p.m. Dec. 30 the Berrien County Narcotics Unit, assisted by the Berrien County Sheriff's Road Patrol and the Benton Harbor Police Department, served a search warrant for narcotics at 615 Broadway, Benton Harbor. Officers arrested a female in the residence, Crystal Sanders, 255 E. Ridgeway. She will be 32 years old on Jan. 4. As officers entered the residence a male attempted to escape by breaking out a second-floor window onto the roof of the residence, then jumping onto the roof of an adjacent house.
His escape attempt failed when he fell off the roof of the adjacent house and was taken into custody by officers.
He was treated and released at Lakeland Medical Center for injuries sustained when he fell off the roof.
He also refused to identify himself to officers or medical staff.
He was later identified at the Berrien County Jail as Jermaine Glen Halliburton, with an outstanding warrant for escape from prison.
Both were lodged in the Berrien County Jail pending arraignment on charges that for Halliburton, 23, of 615 Broadway, Benton Harbor, included: possession of crack cocaine with intent to deliver; possession of marijuana with intent to deliver; maintaining a drug house; resisting and obstructing a police officer and, fifth, an outstanding warrant for escape from prison. Sanders is being charged with being an inmate of a disorderly house.
Officers seized crack cocaine with a street value of $275, marijuana with a street value of $1,500, an electronic scale and packaging material.
Officers also seized $246 in cash, three cell phones and other electronic equipment under civil forfeiture.
