Niles City Police officers were dispatched to Martin's Supermarket Sunday for an adult male shoplifter who was fighting with employees.
Michael Daniel Conley, 28, of 514 N. Notre Dame Ave. in South Bend, Ind. attempted to walk out of the store with a bottle of rum concealed in his inside coat pocket.
A remote lock was activated to prevent Conley from leaving and he was approached by store security.
According to the police report, Conley was taken to the store office where he became angry and tried to flee the store.
Conley charged an employee and knocked him into the wall, breaking his eye glass frames and ripping an earring from his ear.
Conley was transported to the Niles Jail where he was booked on charges of retail fraud and assault and battery.
Niles City Police officers also responded to a retail fraud complaint at Martin's Supermarket on Sunday night at approximately 7:30 p.m.
The complaint involved exchanging out of state non-returnable bottles for cash.
Nikolayevi Konstantin Plaksin, 31, and Ruzal Khalilov, 30, of 2612 Royal Vista Terrace in South Bend, Ind. were advised earlier that they could not exchange the out of state bottles.
They ignored the advice and went on to collect $42.90 for the bottles.
The two suspects were arrested and booked for retail fraud.
