NILES -- The widely-recognized Young Americans National Music Outreach Tour will bring their educational music and dance workshop to Niles in January.
This is a special stop because the director of Young Americans is Niles native Bill Brawley.
In the past, more than 300 area youth, grades fourth through 12th, have participated in this fun-filled, three-day workshop.
The Young Americans is a non-profit educational institution founded in 1962 to strengthen music in our nation's schools.
The intense workshop is followed by a live show that will showcase both the Young Americans and the students who choose to enroll.
The workshop will begin with registration at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday, Jan. 18, and the first workshop will follow from 1 to 5 p.m.
Monday, Jan. 19, will be comprised of an all-day workshop from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with an hour lunch from noon to 1 p.m. and dinner from 5-6 p.m. Snacks will be provided during the dinner hour (a menu will be provided later).
Tuesday, Jan. 20, will feature a workshop rehearsal from 4 to 6 p.m. followed by a performance at 7:30 p.m.
A final performance will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 21.
During the workshops, students are expected to wear appropriate clothing and participants will be required to purchase or rent a t-shirt for the two performances. Scholarships are available to qualified Niles students. If you are interested in participating or if you or your company would like to help with scholarships, please contact Molly Brawley at 683-2894 or Barb Garrard at 683-4633.
