NILES -- Matt Meersman has been hired as the new Four Flags Area Council on Tourism Executive Director.
Meersman, married to his wife Danielle for four years and a native of South Bend, Ind., bought a home in the Niles area and plans to move here early next year.
He graduated from Indiana University-South Bend and is a member of the Michigan Association of Paddle Sport Providers. He previously owned the Niles Canoe and Kayak rental on the Dowagiac River north of Niles.
Meersman's position as Executive Director is likened to that of a PR – a public relations director.
Meersman worried about coming on too strong with his enthusiasm for outdoor entertainment.
The Four Flags Council on Tourism, which currently holds 30 to 40 members, meet four times a month and is open to anyone volunteering to donate their time and efforts.
