Niles juvenile arrested for Wednesday vehicle theft from Howard Township

Dowagiac Police Chief Tom Atkinson reports that his officers recovered a stolen vehicle and arrested the driver for that offense.
This incident occurred on Wednesday, Dec. 10, at approximately 9:50 p.m.
City officers spotted a vehicle that was reported stolen from the Howard Township area at the Shell Mart in Dowagiac.
Officers observed the vehicle leave the Shell Mart and travel north on North Front Street.
Officers stopped the vehicle on Sheldon Street, near McOmber Street, and arrested the 16-year-old driver for possession of a stolen vehicle.
Upon searching the driver, officers located a small amont of marijuana on him. Officers also learned that he currently has no driver's license.
Police took the 16-year-old Niles resident into custody and contacted his guardian. He was turned over to his guardian pending a petition into juvenile court.
The vehicle was returned to the owner.
No names were released due to the age of the suspect in this incident.
