Aggressive Bucks bury Bobcats

NILES -- The Buchanan varsity basketball team committed 10 turnovers and missed a handful of easy shots in the first half, but still led 30-14 at halftime on its way to a 60-28 win over Brandywine Thursday night.
The victory lifted the Bucks to 13-7 overall and 10-4 in the Lakeland Conference at the end of the regular season. Brandywine finished 10-10 overall and 6-8 in the league. Both teams will play in the Class C District Tournament next week at Buchanan High School.
Senior forward Ashlee Layher made four 3-pointers and scored 14 of her game-high 23 in the first quarter as Buchanan raced out to a 14-2 lead before finishing the period with a 21-9 advantage.
Sheena Bradshaw and Dee Dee Thompson each scored 10 points for the Bucks.
Katie Tuohy led Brandywine with 10 points and seven rebounds.
The Buchanan junior varsity basketball team beat Brandywine 35-31. Jessica Dickinson led the Bucks with 12 points. Ashley Casey, Rachel Batman and Kelli Zache each scored seven for Brandywine.
