NILES -- Gary Campbell, Brandywine Public School's interim superintendent, is taking steps to prevent further accidents from happening at the school district's athletic events.
At Monday's school board meeting, he recommended a task force be formed to look into ways to avoid bleacher-related accidents.
During the last football game of the season between Brandywine High School and Edwardsburg High, bleachers at the visitor side broke causing some spectators to fall down.
And, at a recent basketball game a young child fell between the seat and the foot board at the home side bleachers.
Campbell said although no one was seriously hurt in the two incidents, the situation is a serious liability for the school district.
The task force will be chaired by Jim Boger, athletic director at Brandywine Middle School.
It will consist of school district staff and volunteers from the community, Campbell said.
Campbell said the group will present two to three alternatives in January that will show how the bleachers can be made safer.
Anyone interested in being on the committee should contact Boger at Brandywine Middle-High School at 683-4800.

Campbell said he will contact consultants and invite them to a special meeting in late November or early December that will begin the process of hiring a new superintendent.
The meeting will be open to the public, he said
